Fleece Fair - 21st July 2007

Muriel, Norma, Brenda and Carol discussing the merits of the different fleece over a cuppa!

As a Guild we held our first "Fleece Fair" at Hatch Beauchamp Village Hall on Saturday 21st July. With 14 breeders offering a wide selection of fleeces in a range of different colours from various breeds of sheep, goats and alpaca, the steady stream of visitors had plenty to choose from.

After sampling Carol Mellish's delightful refreshments, (coffee and home made cakes and ploughman's lunches), the majority of visitors left clutching bags full of fibres for spinning in the coming months. More than 700GBP worth of fleece/fibre changed hands on the day.

We were pleased to welcome visitors from neighbouring counties as well as our home county of Somerset. All the vendors said that they would certainly come again should we hold the event again next year, even those that only sold one fleece.

The day was deemed a great success and we are already talking of repeating the event in 2008.
