The Guild's second "Fleece Fair" at Hatch Beauchamp Village Hall went even better than last year's event. There were 14 stalls offering a fantastic selection of fleeces in a range of natural colours, and including the following breeds: Manx Loaghtan, Portland, Norfolk Horn, Shetland, Manx Loaghtan x Portland, Manx Loaghtan x Corriedale, Bowmont, Bleu-de-maine, Black Welsh Mountain, Romney, Shetland, Jacob, Balwen, Kerry Hill, Wensleydale, Llanwenog and Bluefaced Leicester. There was also fibre from goats and alpacas and a wide range of dyed fibres too. In addition some members were demonstrating spinning and weaving for novice visitors and were on hand to answer any questions. Thanks to Jacquie Teal for demonstrating on a rigid heddle loom, and to Eleanor and Rosemary Burgess and Frances Yendall for spinning demonstrations. Rather than the steady trickle of visitors throughout the day like last year, this year everyone came early to snap up bargains. The hall was full to bursting in the morning, everyone made their purchases, enjoyed lunch (thanks to Carol and her team in the kitchen once again) and a chat and then gradually drifted home. The day was again deemed a great success and is now a firm fixture on the Guild Calendar! The organisation of the 2009 event is well under way and a notice will appear on the website as soon as the details are finalised - please make a note in your diary and keep the date free to come an join us, either to sell or buy! |
