Hello Ladies I have had a request from the following lady below for help:

Hello Ladies

I own some alpacas and am in the process of setting up a small business in County Fermanagh in N. Ireland. We are calling ourselves "Shades of Ireland" and want to concentrate on producing wall hangings made out of alpaca wool which will represent Ireland through their colours and shapes - eg: moutains, lakes and seascapes, etc. We have some enthusiastic spinners but unfortunately our present weaver is having to give up in order to do a degree course. There appears to be an acute shortage of weavers hereabouts! Do you, through your Guild, know of any weavers who might be interested in helping us?

At present we are applying for a local grant and should we be successful we will be able to pay more than we are offering at present. The wall hangings are not tapestries as they are mainly made from rough-spun alpaca wool to give them a bit of a 3-d appearance. They are not large either.
In looking for weavers who do not live near us, the following are the requirements - but open to discussion in the case of each individual weaver:

1. Each wall hanging would need to be approx.12 to 20 inches long and about 9. to 15 inches across - this is only a rough estimate to give some idea

2. I would supply a picture to give some idea of the background - usually a photograph.

3. I would also supply wool dyed to be as close as possible to the colours required.

4. I would post them to the weaver and would reimburse the return costs. I would pay £12 per wall hanging. As mentioned above, If I am able to obtain a grant then I will be able to pay more than this.

5. I will send a photograph of the 4 wall hangings already completed to anyone who feels that they might be able to help us.

This is a fun enterprise which could move on to be something special. We have a long way to go and would love to have a few enthusiastic weavers join us!

I contacted you in Somerset as I have family in the area and could get in touch with you when I am visiting them.
I do hope you can help - or put us on your HELP NEEDED column

Best wishes,
Rosemarie (Gilchrist).
