The Somerset Guild hosts a busy programme of informative and inspiring talks and workshops

2024 Guild Programme

Please note that every Guild meeting has a dedicated tuition area for beginner spinners. This is usually in the side room in the Village Hall.

April 20th: Skills day! Our members will share an array of weaving, spinning and dyeing skills.

May 18th: Brigitte Graham will join us for a discussion on Rush Weaving.

June 15th: Our annual fleece fair! Running from 9.30am - 1.30pm. A brilliant day out for all the family. Meet and talk with local breeders, and learn about and buy new fleeces. Find out more here.

July 20th: A discussion on Nettle Weaving with Brigitte Kaltenbacher. This is also the date of our nature-themed weaving competition - open to all members!

August 17th: The Somerset Guild’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations!

September 21st: Julie Hedges will talk about the origins and history of Ply-Split Braiding, give the Guild a demonstration, and share a display of work through the ages & on September 22nd Julie Hedges is running an one-day Ply Split Braiding workshop for 12 people (additional costs apply, please contact us to book onto the Sunday workshop).

October 19th: Whitchurch Silk Mills with Deborah Wheeler

November 16th: Wheel Clinic and talk about general equipment and stock with David Herring. This is also the date of our nature-themed spinning competition.

December 14th: Christmas Social

Past events:

January 20th 2024: Brian Bond will share his Journey into natural dyeing. Including sales of seeds, dried dye stuffs and dyed wool fibre/yarn. The beginners class will be in the small adjoining room 11am-12pm focusing on what you can do with wool tops/batts.

February 17th 2024: Guild AGM at 11am. Followed by an introduction to the world of kilt-making with Paul Henry from Fleece to Pleats.

March 16th 2024: A chat with Bethan Murray, a curator of Social History and Textiles at Somerset Heritage Museum.

The Guild is often asked to provide demonstrators at events. Do let us know if you are interested in hosting demonstrators or offering your skills as a demonstrator. Please come and see us and say hello if you are visiting an event.
